"Homa Darabi, Professor of Child Psychiatry at the National University of Teheran, stood out in the resistance to the rigid Islamic dress code, and because of this was persecuted and molested by the security forces. Although sh was considered to be a distinguished member of her profession both in her own country and internationally she was dismissed from herduties in December of 1991 and thereby condemned to inactivity. In the February of 1994, Doctor Homa Dorabi made her way to one of the central streets of Teheran, pulled her scarf off her head and the "chador", that the womem in Iran are obliged to wear, poured petrol over her body and set fire to herself, and as she was dying shouted, "Down with tyranny, liberty forever, long live Iran."
